What’s up Y’all

Been a long time coming since I’ve posted up on this here Philadelphia Sports blog.  But I’m back.  I’m working on moving the site to a new domain and philadelphia-eagles-logohosting a philadelphia sports forum as well.  Here’s hoping ehh.  Hope I can find the time.

Anyway, Eagles… They got the Saints this weekend and god I hope we can shut down Drew Brees.  I hope the Eagle Defense doesnt get too flustered in going from one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, Jake Delhomme, to arguably the best, Drew Brees.   I think we can slow down their running attack which means more passing, and hopefully Sheldon, Asante, Quintin and the Macho Man can handle that shit.

That then brings me to the next not-so-fun point.  Kevin Kolb is most likely getting the start…. Kevin Kolb fuckin’ sucks.  Ok maybe he doesnt suck that bad, but damn he needs to show me something this week.  Hey, no pressure Kevin, this may be the only chance you get for a long time with Michael Vick in town.  So play your heart out bud.

Speaking of Michael Vick, I cannot wait to see what he brings to this Eagles offense.  Really trying to get some tickets to that this upcoming week.

Prediction:    Saints 24   Eagles 17.  I don’t see McNabb playing, Kolb blows.  Brees goes deep for 3.  Westbrook scores.

Westbrook Sore but will Start

Brian Westbrook sat out Wednesday’s practice, but he’ll certainly play against the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.  Expect b-west1him to take the rest of the week off from actual practice and focus more on getting his aching muscles and sore knees ready for gametime come Sunday.   According to #36 himself:

I will start.

B West Resting up for G-Men

Birds running back Brian Westbrook did not practice Wednesday and might be limited for the rest of the week.  Westbrook is nursing a badly b-west1sprained right ankle and swollen left knee, said Wednesday that he probably won’t practice much this week.  Instead he will prepare for the Eagles’ divisional-round playoff game against NFC East rival, the New York Giants with an intensive regimen of weightlifting, stretching and running in a pool.

Westbrook said he will start against the Giants on Sunday, but only after taking a round of anti-inflammatory medication on Saturday night and Sunday morning to get the pain and swelling to a tolerable level.  Look for B West to torch the G-Men as he usually does.

Westbrook Secures Wild Card Win

After a long, tight, and tough game to watch from an fan’s standpoint Brian Westbrook finally broke one.

B West caught a screen pass out of the backfield and bursted through the Minny D for a devastating 71-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, securing the Eagles victory in the Metrodome Sunday night.

Philadelphia will play next Sunday in the Meadowlands against NFC East rival and defending champion New York Giants, where they won 20-14 on Dec. 7.  With the win, Arizona will now face Carolina in the other NFC semifinal Saturday.

What…..The…… _______________?

The end of an era?  The closing of a chapter in Eagles lore?  Add another one to the, what could’ve been?  Simply embarrassing? All of the above appear to be yes.  In what can only be describe as pathetic, the Eagles TIED the one win Bengals in a joke of an offensive performance, as Donovan McNabb missed on THIRTY OF FIFTY EIGHT PASSES yesterday.

box4

And what is even more embarrassing then the 30 incompletions in one game, even more embarrassing then the fact that McNabb turned the ball over four times (and it easily should’ve been six), what is even more embarrassing then the fact that McNabb didn’t know the game was going to end in a tie at the end of overtime, is the fact that head coach Andy Reid called 58 pass plays, with arguably the best player in football as his RUNNING back, to which he only touched the ball seventeen times, fourteen of them on running plays.

Something needs to change.  Whatever the “philosophy” the Eagles are using is NOT working.  If everyone watching can see it EXCEPT the men in charge, something is wrong. “From watching film, other teams in the league have been successful against them,” said Bengal corner back Jonathan Joseph, “They may have a lot of yards or whatever, but teams have been successful getting them off the field. They have tendencies you can pick up on and you have a good idea of what’s going on….they run those 14-yard curl routes (over and over), they ran them like five times today.”

There is no more proof then that my friends that something needs to change.  The player callers, the game planner, the philosophy, something needs to change, because teams know what the Eagles are going to do before the play happens, how can you win when that happens?

Well, at least you can tie?

Times yours……

G Men Run All Over the Eagles

Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes, Brandon Jacobs blasted in two more and the Giants did just enough to beat the Birds 36-31 and positioned themselves for another postseason run.  The Eagles who rank 14th in the NFL in rushing defense at 104 ypg allowed, found themselves getting murdered up front and allowed 219 rushing yards to the division foe G Men.  The consistent ability to run opened up the passing attack for Eli who was able to his find receivers all night.

The Eagles had the ball at their own 45 with 1:55 left, but B West couldnt convert a 3rd and 3 on a sweep to the otuside.  And was then stopped on the following play by Chase Blackburn on fourth-and-1.  Andy Reid has no power run game, and his play calling on 3rd and 3 acknowledges it.  I’m really starting to get sick of tired of some of the moronic things he has been doing lately.

Giants Eagles Football

The Giants (8-1) are now two games ahead of the Redskins and three in front of the Eagles (5-4) and the  Cowboys.  New York is 3-0 against the division, the Eagles, 0-3.

Eagles Cut Reed, Sign Eckel

The Eagles signed fullback Kyle Eckel and released safety J.R. Reed on Tuesday.

Reed has been hampered by injuries this season and in five games with limited playing time, he has three tackles. With Demps and DeSean handling returns there is really no need for JR anymore.

Eckel, a former Patriot, had 90 yards on 33 carries with two touchdowns in 12 games last season for New England. He also played on special teams and totaled 12 tackles.  He’s a true FB and could be a giant asset to super RB Brian Westbrook.

Westbrook Optimistic About Week 8

Eagle’s superstar running back Brian Westbrook is optimistic that he will be in the starting lineup for this upcoming weekends game against the resurgent Atlanta Falcons.

B West broke two ribs on the eighth play of the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 5.  He missed week 4 against the Bears due to an ankle injury and was kept on the sideline during Week 6 due to the rib injury.  Thankfully the Birds had their bye last week (week 7) and Brian was able to rest up and get set to destroy the mediocre Atlanta D.

The Eagles need a win in a big way this upcoming weekend with Dallas on the brink of turmoil and the Giants running away with the division.

Eagles Win Ugly

Finally our defense stepped up late in a game and helped the Eags score 23 4th quarter points to take a weird and wild victory from the 49ers in sunny San Francisco yesterday.  Donovan’s players only meeting didn’t seem to stir up much sense of urgency from the get go for the Birds on Sunday and it looked as if Eagle fans were in for another sickening feeling in their stomachs as San Fran scored 10 unanswered right before the half yesterday including a returned blocked field goal.

Being that this game was a must win we somehow someway found a way to pull it out and get the W.  A huge victory for the birds as two NFC East teams lost on Sunday (Dallas and Washington) with New York still yet to take the field until tonight.  For a minute there (well a few) I was really beginning to doubt our chances of making the playoffs this year the way we looked against a BAD San Francisco team.  I’ll give them some credit… well no I won’t, they’re terrible.

Onto the only positives from this game:  Donovan threw for 280 yards and two scores minus his best RB (B West) and his top two WRs (Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown). Oh and David Akers MADE A FIELD GOAL.

Player of the Game: Juqua Parker –  5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT for TD

Fast Facts: McNabb past Ron Jaworski on the Eagles’ career list for yards passing and pass attempts.

Westbrook Out for Sunday’s Game

Big Red released the bad news Friday that three starting offensive players are out for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers: RB  Brian Westbrook (ribs), G Shawn Andrews (back) and WR Reggie Brown (groin).

Brian Westbrook

The availability of wide receiver Kevin Curtis (sports hernia) and defensive end Juqua Parker (knee) are still unkown as they were listed as questionable. Curtis has a decent chance of playing as he had a full practice on Friday.  Juqua sat out Friday’s practice and is very questionable. Tight end L.J. Smith will be available as a starter despite a sore back.
