Portis and Zorn Settle Differences

Redskins running back Clinton Portis has met with coach Jim Zorn to sort out their differences, according to quarterback Jason Campbell.redskins_logo_small

In a radio interview Tuesday, Portis expressed his frustrations over his lack of playing time in Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The NFL’s third-leading rusher criticized Zorn for the way he handles players and sarcastically called the coach a “genius.”

Sean Taylor Inducted into Redskins’ Ring of Fame

Announced one last time as the “starting free safety” for the Redskins, Sean Taylor was inducted into the team’s Ring of Fame before Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.redskins_logo_small

With his mother, father, girlfriend and daughter huddled under umbrellas near the center of the field, Taylor’s name was unveiled on the upper-level facade of FedEx Field.

Running back Clinton Portis, Taylor’s close friend, then ran onto the field carrying a large burgundy flag with a gold No. 21.  The Giants won the game 23-7 in a muddy and rainy affair.

Redskins Cut Shaun Alexander

The Washington Redskins have released running back Shaun Alexander after four games with the team.  The 31 year old former MVP had provided insurance while injuries prevented Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts from redskins_logo_smallplaying.

Portis and Betts continue to battle through injuries, but the Redskins apparently felt they needed Alexander’s roster spot to help with depth on the D-line after defensive end Andre Carter suffered a foot injury against the Seattle Seahawks this past week.  Portis carried the ball 29 times for 143 yards and looked to be fine during Sundays game.  But word out of Redskins camp is that Portis suffered a strained ribcage muscle on Sunday.

NFC East Round Up

With starting running back Brandon Jacobs out with a knee injury, the Giants took to the air to win their sixth in a row.  Manning threw for three touchdowns in his return to the scene of his Super Bowl MVP performance and the New York Giants beat Arizona 37-29 to snap the Cardinals’ seven-game home winning streak.

Manning completed 26 of 33 for 240 yards with no interceptions as the Giants moved to 10-1, tied for the best record in the NFL.

Terrell Owens broke out with seven catches for 213 yards and the Dallas defense played great when it had to, helping the Cowboys beat the San Francisco 49ers 35-22 Sunday.  Tony Romo was 23-of-39 for 341 yards and three touchdowns in his second game playing with a splint protecting a broken pinkie on his passing hand.

Dallas (7-4) has won consecutive games for the first time since starting 3-0. With Seattle coming to Texas Stadium on Thursday, the Cowboys could distance themselves even more from their recent 2-4 rut and could go steaming into December in prime position for a wild-card playoff berth.

Clinton Portis gained 143 yards on 29 carries, including key runs late that helped preserve the Redskins’ first victory in almost a month, 20-17 over the Seattle Seahawks.  It ended a two-game losing streak for Washington (7-4), which hosts the division-leading New York Giants (10-1) on Sunday.

Portis Likely Out This Weekend Against Dallas

Clinton Portis’ sprained knee showed no improvement Thursday, and the Washington Redskins running back appears unlikely to play in Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. redskins_logo_small

The NFL’s second-leading rusher left Redskins Park during practice, walking gingerly in a gray hooded sweatshirt and burgundy sweatpants to his Maserati.

Portis sprained his left knee in the 23-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers before last week’s bye.

With Portis hurt, Ladell Betts appears set to start Sunday. Betts has missed the last three games with a sprained knee, but he was on the field in steady rain for Thursday’s practice.  Shaun Alexander would start if both Portis and Betts are unable to play.

Redskins Sign Shaun Alexander

The ‘Skins signed Shaun Alexander to a one-year deal on Tuesday to fill in for Ladell Betts as he recovers from a knee injury. Betts is expected to miss around three weeks with the injury.  Alexander will back up starting RB Clinton Portis during Betts’ recovery.

Alexander was released by the Seahawks in the offseason and could not seem to latch onto an NFL team at all.  He had visited the Saints, Bengals and Lions before finally landing a job in Washington. This however bodes well for Alexander, as he worked with Redskins head coach Jim Zorn and running backs coach Stump Mitchell in Seattle.

Expect nothing great out of this washed up old vet.
