What’s up Y’all

Been a long time coming since I’ve posted up on this here Philadelphia Sports blog.  But I’m back.  I’m working on moving the site to a new domain and philadelphia-eagles-logohosting a philadelphia sports forum as well.  Here’s hoping ehh.  Hope I can find the time.

Anyway, Eagles… They got the Saints this weekend and god I hope we can shut down Drew Brees.  I hope the Eagle Defense doesnt get too flustered in going from one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, Jake Delhomme, to arguably the best, Drew Brees.   I think we can slow down their running attack which means more passing, and hopefully Sheldon, Asante, Quintin and the Macho Man can handle that shit.

That then brings me to the next not-so-fun point.  Kevin Kolb is most likely getting the start…. Kevin Kolb fuckin’ sucks.  Ok maybe he doesnt suck that bad, but damn he needs to show me something this week.  Hey, no pressure Kevin, this may be the only chance you get for a long time with Michael Vick in town.  So play your heart out bud.

Speaking of Michael Vick, I cannot wait to see what he brings to this Eagles offense.  Really trying to get some tickets to that this upcoming week.

Prediction:    Saints 24   Eagles 17.  I don’t see McNabb playing, Kolb blows.  Brees goes deep for 3.  Westbrook scores.

Housh Wants to Wear Green

Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh sent a text message to ESPN 950 saying “If they want me I’d be an Eagle tomorrow.” philadelphia-eagles-logo

Houshmandzadeh seems to be still waiting it out to schedule any visits, but he’s the type to take less to play for a winner. He’s also made it clear that he’d love to play with Donovan McNabb. The interest may not be mutual.

McNabb’s Arizona Home Vandalized

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed a report on Yahoo yesterday that “Go Cards” and similar messages were burned into the front lawn of Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb’s home in Chandler, Ariz., at some point last week.

The report said that McNabb’s wife, Roxie, and his three children were staying at the house, but the source said it was not clear if they were at the home at the time of the incident.

The website’s report said that McNabb took a photo of the damaged lawn and used it as a motivating factor for the NFC title game against the Cardinals.

According to the report, one of the culprits was identified after leaving a box at the scene with his mailing label attached.

Westbrook Secures Wild Card Win

After a long, tight, and tough game to watch from an fan’s standpoint Brian Westbrook finally broke one.

B West caught a screen pass out of the backfield and bursted through the Minny D for a devastating 71-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, securing the Eagles victory in the Metrodome Sunday night.

Philadelphia will play next Sunday in the Meadowlands against NFC East rival and defending champion New York Giants, where they won 20-14 on Dec. 7.  With the win, Arizona will now face Carolina in the other NFC semifinal Saturday.

McNabb’s Last Season with the Eagles

As Justin Timberlake and ‘NSYNC once said, ” BYE BYE BYE, BYE BYE!”

Donovan McNabb was pulled from a game for the first time in his career after two awful quarters of football in Sunday’s 36-7 loss at Baltimore. The Birds only trailed 10-7 at the time, but Big Red thought second-year backup Kevin Kolb gave the team a better chance to win a game it desperately needed to maintain its slim playoff hopes.  And at the time, I did too.  And right now, I still think it was the right move.  Donovan doesnt understand how awful he really is playing lately and has always been let off the leash easy because of his inseperable bond with his coach, Andy Reid.  Andy made the right call on Sunday after two quarters of gut wrenching, sickening and downright pathetic football to watch from a fan’s standpoint.

andyreidmcnabb_feature

Unless Donnie comes out guns a blazing over the course of the rest of the season, I think he is gone and here’s why.

McNabb isn’t getting any younger or faster and turns 32 on Tuesday.  He is signed through 2013 and is scheduled to earn $9.2 million next year (with I think a bonus of about 900k – 1 mil).  Eagle Brass is exceptionally frugal with the checkbook as we all have seen over there years and in my mind there is no chance they will pay him that kinda coin to be a backup.  Even as a starting QB, I cant justify that Donovan’s performances have been worth anything near that number.  Not to mention the fact that he’s only 22-21-1 as a starter since leading Philadelphia to four straight NFC championship games from 2001-04.

With that, we bid you adieu Donovan.  This is a business first and foremost and right now YOU my friend are killing our bottom line.

What…..The…… _______________?

The end of an era?  The closing of a chapter in Eagles lore?  Add another one to the, what could’ve been?  Simply embarrassing? All of the above appear to be yes.  In what can only be describe as pathetic, the Eagles TIED the one win Bengals in a joke of an offensive performance, as Donovan McNabb missed on THIRTY OF FIFTY EIGHT PASSES yesterday.

box4

And what is even more embarrassing then the 30 incompletions in one game, even more embarrassing then the fact that McNabb turned the ball over four times (and it easily should’ve been six), what is even more embarrassing then the fact that McNabb didn’t know the game was going to end in a tie at the end of overtime, is the fact that head coach Andy Reid called 58 pass plays, with arguably the best player in football as his RUNNING back, to which he only touched the ball seventeen times, fourteen of them on running plays.

Something needs to change.  Whatever the “philosophy” the Eagles are using is NOT working.  If everyone watching can see it EXCEPT the men in charge, something is wrong. “From watching film, other teams in the league have been successful against them,” said Bengal corner back Jonathan Joseph, “They may have a lot of yards or whatever, but teams have been successful getting them off the field. They have tendencies you can pick up on and you have a good idea of what’s going on….they run those 14-yard curl routes (over and over), they ran them like five times today.”

There is no more proof then that my friends that something needs to change.  The player callers, the game planner, the philosophy, something needs to change, because teams know what the Eagles are going to do before the play happens, how can you win when that happens?

Well, at least you can tie?

Times yours……

Ocho Cinco Credits McNabb for Attitude Change

Chad Ocho Cinco is crediting Donnie McNabb with helping him adjust his attitude during training camp. donnie-to-ocho-td

Ocho Cinco, who had spent the offseason criticizing Bengals management and proclaiming to the media that he would appreciate a trade out of Cincy, said McNabb helped convince him to put his teammates first and forget about his personal disappointments.

Ocho Cinco, calling McNabb a close friend, said McNabb reminded him that while he might feel miserable, millions of people would gladly trade places with him.

God I wish we coulda signed this guy.  Imagine Chad running flys and catching Donnie’s bombs.  Hey Chad, get back to complaining this off-season and come help us out in the NFC East.  We the fans WILL LOVE YOU and show you all the support you need.  PS, send me a jersey.

Eagles Win Ugly

Finally our defense stepped up late in a game and helped the Eags score 23 4th quarter points to take a weird and wild victory from the 49ers in sunny San Francisco yesterday.  Donovan’s players only meeting didn’t seem to stir up much sense of urgency from the get go for the Birds on Sunday and it looked as if Eagle fans were in for another sickening feeling in their stomachs as San Fran scored 10 unanswered right before the half yesterday including a returned blocked field goal.

Being that this game was a must win we somehow someway found a way to pull it out and get the W.  A huge victory for the birds as two NFC East teams lost on Sunday (Dallas and Washington) with New York still yet to take the field until tonight.  For a minute there (well a few) I was really beginning to doubt our chances of making the playoffs this year the way we looked against a BAD San Francisco team.  I’ll give them some credit… well no I won’t, they’re terrible.

Onto the only positives from this game:  Donovan threw for 280 yards and two scores minus his best RB (B West) and his top two WRs (Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown). Oh and David Akers MADE A FIELD GOAL.

Player of the Game: Juqua Parker –  5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT for TD

Fast Facts: McNabb past Ron Jaworski on the Eagles’ career list for yards passing and pass attempts.

Donovan’s Embarrassed

Donovan McNabb made a post on his blog yesterday about the teams efforts the past two weeks and was highly critical of his own play in the the loss to divisional foe Washington Redskins last Sunday.  The way most of it is worded it seems Donovan is pretty upset with the outcome of the game and the way he performed.  I like the fact that he mentions how the ‘time is now’ and these close games early in the season WILL come back to bite us in the ass come playoff time.  We need all the wins we can get, especially in the NFC East, the hardest division in the entire league.

Some of the highlights from Donnie’s post after the jump.

I’m embarrassed with the way I played. I didn’t do enough to win the game for my team. I take that to heart. I want the ball in my hand when the game is on the line and, if I have it, I have to make a play. I’ll take that responsibility. All three of our losses were within a score so one play could have made a difference – a fumble, an interception, calling an audible, not calling an audible.

I’ve made mistakes and I’ve owned up to them. I’m sure that some of my teammates and coaches might feel that they also could have done better. But a play here and a play there is costing us precious division and conference games that can bite us down the stretch.

I’m better than this and I’ll prove it. I know my team is too. Now we have to prove it.
