Eagles Cut Reed, Sign Eckel

The Eagles signed fullback Kyle Eckel and released safety J.R. Reed on Tuesday.

Reed has been hampered by injuries this season and in five games with limited playing time, he has three tackles. With Demps and DeSean handling returns there is really no need for JR anymore.

Eckel, a former Patriot, had 90 yards on 33 carries with two touchdowns in 12 games last season for New England. He also played on special teams and totaled 12 tackles.  He’s a true FB and could be a giant asset to super RB Brian Westbrook.

Westbrook Optimistic About Week 8

Eagle’s superstar running back Brian Westbrook is optimistic that he will be in the starting lineup for this upcoming weekends game against the resurgent Atlanta Falcons.

B West broke two ribs on the eighth play of the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 5.  He missed week 4 against the Bears due to an ankle injury and was kept on the sideline during Week 6 due to the rib injury.  Thankfully the Birds had their bye last week (week 7) and Brian was able to rest up and get set to destroy the mediocre Atlanta D.

The Eagles need a win in a big way this upcoming weekend with Dallas on the brink of turmoil and the Giants running away with the division.

Eagles Win Ugly

Finally our defense stepped up late in a game and helped the Eags score 23 4th quarter points to take a weird and wild victory from the 49ers in sunny San Francisco yesterday.  Donovan’s players only meeting didn’t seem to stir up much sense of urgency from the get go for the Birds on Sunday and it looked as if Eagle fans were in for another sickening feeling in their stomachs as San Fran scored 10 unanswered right before the half yesterday including a returned blocked field goal.

Being that this game was a must win we somehow someway found a way to pull it out and get the W.  A huge victory for the birds as two NFC East teams lost on Sunday (Dallas and Washington) with New York still yet to take the field until tonight.  For a minute there (well a few) I was really beginning to doubt our chances of making the playoffs this year the way we looked against a BAD San Francisco team.  I’ll give them some credit… well no I won’t, they’re terrible.

Onto the only positives from this game:  Donovan threw for 280 yards and two scores minus his best RB (B West) and his top two WRs (Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown). Oh and David Akers MADE A FIELD GOAL.

Player of the Game: Juqua Parker –  5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT for TD

Fast Facts: McNabb past Ron Jaworski on the Eagles’ career list for yards passing and pass attempts.

Westbrook Breaks Two Ribs in Loss to Skin’s

Well it appears Brian Westbrook’s return to the Eagles’ lineup may be very short-lived.

Big Red said in his press conference Monday that Westbrook, who was back in the lineup after sitting out last week against Chicago with an ankle injury, broke two ribs on the eighth play of the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Westbrook went to the sidenline holding his chest after the play, but after a few stretches and some trainer assistance was back out on the field for the next series.  He managed to finish the game with 12 carries for 33 yards and six catches for 51 yards.

When Andy Reid was asked about Westbrook’s availability for next week against the 49ers, he was his usual “I’m not disclosing anything” – self:

We’ll see how it works out for him.

Brian Westbrook is Officially Day to Day

Andy Reid held a press conference Monday and updated the media as to the severity of Brian Westbrook’s injury, or lack thereof.  Westbrook left the Pittsburgh game after he stepped on his own teammate and landed awkwardly on his other ankle.  Although Westbrook limped off the field, it didn’t look too serious.

During the press conference, Big Red stated that there was no ligament or tendon damage.  Reid stated that Westbrook’s status is day-to-day.  The injury is being listed as a sprain and Westbrook hasn’t been ruled out for this Sunday night’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Personally, I think the Eagles play this one safe and plan for the Chicago Bears without Westbrook in the lineup and let him get back to 100%.  I think we can handle the Bears without him and this will give some key reserves the reps they desperately need.

Eagles Cowboys Prediction

Written by Guest Writer, Chris Rak.

Final Score : Eagles  33   CowGirls  14

The Scoring Summary Please:

  • Demps 98 yard KO Return to start the game.  7-0 Eags out to an early lead.
  • Owens pours popcorn in his eyes after his only TD (cause I need him to score just one for me to win fantasy this week) and blinds himself with the butter out for the game, 7-7.
  • DeSean Jackson, 43 yard TD catch burning Pacman Jones.  14-7 Birds.
  • Then Jessica Simpson tries to distract the Eagles Defense by flashing her tatters on the big board, however she only distracts Romo who’s never ACTUALLY seen her naked.  Pacman instantly starts making it rain throwing hundred dollar bills in the air towards the big screen she’s on from the sidelines distracting TO who can’t believe Pacman is back to the same old shit.   Lito picks off the pass and heads towards the endzone.  While returning for a touchdown he picks up each and every one of those hundo’s Pacman is raining cause we all know he thinks hes underpaid.   21-7 Eagles.
  • Before the half Donnie runs for a 34 yard scramble and scores a touchdown.

HALFTIME: Eagles  28   CowGirls  7

  • Opening kick off of the second half Pacman tries to make up for first half blunders and returns the kickoff to the 10.
  • Next play Dawkins blitzes.  Picks up Romo completely off the ground throws him 7 yards back into the end zone safety.  30-7 Eagles.
  • Then, Lito showing he’s not joking about paying him, lets Felix Jones (also on my fantasy squad so if he or TO score I win, yes I don’t know how I have too many cowboys, trust me, I’ve tried trading them) run right past him without even budging, just staring at Joe Banner.  30-14.
  • 0:37 left in the game B West breaks a 44 yarder then just falls down at the 1 yard line (we’ve all seen it before), but this time Lito calls a timeout with 1 second left to spite the Birds.  Its ok, pad the stats, David Akers bangs the field goal.

GAME SET MATCH:  Eagles  33   CowGirls  14

Well Chris, now that would be awesome and quite possibly the single most entertaining football game of all time, but I see otherwise.  I still see a very entertaining game, minus all the hoopla and shenanigans.  I see Donovan McNabb being on point, a healthy Brian Westbrook making defenders miss, and a solid effort by our revamped Defensive unit, giving the Eagles a winner in a thriller, 31 – 24.

Kevin Curtis Could Miss Some Significant Time

According to sources Kevin Curtis has a sports hernia and will be out for a while and may require surgery.  This is very bad news for an already questionable receiving corps.  Especially with Reggie Brown having hamstring issues early on through camp and the first two preseason games.

If we were waiting to make a move at Anquan Boldin well now is the time to do it.  Should be interesting to see what gets reported in the coming days.  Stay posted for more details and updates on the situation.

UPDATE: Just heard 3-4 weeks, but if you ask Donnie and LJ, they might not agree.

Bring BOLDIN Aboard!

In a Pacman Jones-like turn of events, Arizona Cardinals’ star wide receiver Anquan ‘the Phenomenon’ Boldin is reportedly seeking a trade from the team after contract negotiations have seemed to sour.

Boldin’s agent Drew Rosenhaus (yes, the infamous Drew Rosenhaus) had already asked for a new contract shortly after fellow wide out Larry Fitzgerald signed a four-year, $40 million deal last spring.  By the time training camp opened, however, Boldin still had no contract and blamed the Cardinal brass for not making good on promises of restructuring a contract extension he signed three years ago.

Under his current contract, Boldin is making $4 million a year, while Fitzgerald is making $10 million (BALLER).   Boldin was reportedly seeking a contract equal to or more than that of Fitzgerald’s.

Boldin and Rosenhaus have made it clear that he no longer wants a new contract.  He wants to leave the team.

Last time I checked we have a plethora of cornerbacks and Arizona could use a few good ones.  Here is our golden opportunity to package Lito and a pick for a TOP NOTCH WIDEOUT.  Boldin would be a FORCE to be reckoned with in our offense and with McNabb throwing bullets to him.  Donovan with Boldin and Kevin Curtis lined up wide.  B West behind him and Reggie Brown and LJ Smith in the slots.  I LIKE IT, A LOT!

BRING BOLDIN ABOARD!  THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL STARTS HERE.

Clemons Suffers Dehydration

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Clemons has been taken to a hospital after suffering dehydration.

Clemons left the field at Lehigh University in Bethlehem about two hours into practice on Tuesday morning.  Reports are he lost consciousness at one point due to the severe dehydration.  He has since re-gained consciousness and has returned from the hospital to the teams facilities.
