NFC East Sunday Night Game was Biggest Ever

The NFC East divisional matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants this past Sunday drew the most viewers ever for a Sunday newnfllogoNight Football game.

The Cowboys’ 20-8 win Sunday on NBC attracted 23.1 million viewers, the network said Tuesday.

The game earned a 13.7 rating and 21 share to make it the 3rd highest rated Sunday Night Football game ever.

Joe Pa gets 3 Year Extension

Penn State head coach Joe Paterno has a new three-year extension to go along with his new hip.  JoePa also will celebrate his 82nd birthday on pennstate_logoSunday.

The Hall of Famer and winningest coach in major college football history has agreed to a new deal with the university, the athletic department said Tuesday in a statement.

The #8 Nittany Lions (11-1) play #5 USC in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Jacobs Out Against Cowboys

The New York Giants have ruled out halfback Brandon Jacobs for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. giants

Jacobs has not practiced all week because of his knee injury, which has been bothering him for about a month. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Derrick Ward.

Mark Ingram the Fugitive

An arrest warrant has been issued for former New York Giants star Mark Ingram after he failed to report to federal prison to begin serving nearly giantseight years for bank fraud and money laundering

Ingram pleaded guilty in November 2005 and was ordered to surrender to a prison in Ashland, Kentucky last Friday, but he never showed.  A spokesman said Ingram was still on the lam as of Wednesday.

Pacman Could Miss Rest of Season

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones is out this week and might miss the rest of the season after injuring his neck against Pittsburgh.cogirls

Coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday that Jones will miss Sunday’s game against the Giants with a herniated disc in his neck. Phillips said there might be damage to a second disc and that Jones could be sidelined for the season. He said team doctors don’t consider the injury career-threatening.

Jones was hurt when he fell on top of his muffed punt but still got caught in a scramble for the loose ball. After several players fell on him, Jones was pulled from the pile awkwardly by a Pittsburgh player.

Portis and Zorn Settle Differences

Redskins running back Clinton Portis has met with coach Jim Zorn to sort out their differences, according to quarterback Jason Campbell.redskins_logo_small

In a radio interview Tuesday, Portis expressed his frustrations over his lack of playing time in Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The NFL’s third-leading rusher criticized Zorn for the way he handles players and sarcastically called the coach a “genius.”

Giants’ LB Pierce to Testify

Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce will cooperate with police and testify before a Manhattan grand jury about how giantsteammate Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself at a nightclub last weekend.  Pierce’s testimony could enable him to avoid charges of hiding Burress’ Glock pistol after the shooting.

Burress has been suspended by the Giants for conduct detrimental to the team and faces charges of illegal weapons possession.

PSU Mascot Arrested for DUI, Rose Bowl Status in Question

The Penn State senior who plays the Nittany Lion mascot was arrested on a DUI charge and his status for the pennstate_logoRose Bowl is in doubt, school officials said.

James Sheep was pulled over on campus around 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 22, hours before Penn State’s 49-18 win over Michigan State. The officer who made the stop saw that the vehicle was overloaded, with passengers piled onto each other and blocking the driver’s view.

After determining that Sheep had been drinking, the officer administered sobriety tests and took him to the hospital for blood tests. He was later charged with DUI and summary traffic violations.

Giants WR Steve Smith Robbed at Gunpoint

New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith was robbed at gunpoint in the early hours of Nov. 25 after arrivinggiants home, according to Clifton, N.J., police.

Smith had just returned to his townhouse in a chauffer-driven car when he was approached from behind by man who held a gun to Smith’s head. The man left the scene and is still being sought.  It was unclear if Smith’s driver was at the townhouse during the hold-up.
