Eagles Win Ugly

Finally our defense stepped up late in a game and helped the Eags score 23 4th quarter points to take a weird and wild victory from the 49ers in sunny San Francisco yesterday.  Donovan’s players only meeting didn’t seem to stir up much sense of urgency from the get go for the Birds on Sunday and it looked as if Eagle fans were in for another sickening feeling in their stomachs as San Fran scored 10 unanswered right before the half yesterday including a returned blocked field goal.

Being that this game was a must win we somehow someway found a way to pull it out and get the W.  A huge victory for the birds as two NFC East teams lost on Sunday (Dallas and Washington) with New York still yet to take the field until tonight.  For a minute there (well a few) I was really beginning to doubt our chances of making the playoffs this year the way we looked against a BAD San Francisco team.  I’ll give them some credit… well no I won’t, they’re terrible.

Onto the only positives from this game:  Donovan threw for 280 yards and two scores minus his best RB (B West) and his top two WRs (Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown). Oh and David Akers MADE A FIELD GOAL.

Player of the Game: Juqua Parker –  5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT for TD

Fast Facts: McNabb past Ron Jaworski on the Eagles’ career list for yards passing and pass attempts.

Westbrook Out for Sunday’s Game

Big Red released the bad news Friday that three starting offensive players are out for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers: RB  Brian Westbrook (ribs), G Shawn Andrews (back) and WR Reggie Brown (groin).

Brian Westbrook

The availability of wide receiver Kevin Curtis (sports hernia) and defensive end Juqua Parker (knee) are still unkown as they were listed as questionable. Curtis has a decent chance of playing as he had a full practice on Friday.  Juqua sat out Friday’s practice and is very questionable. Tight end L.J. Smith will be available as a starter despite a sore back.

My Thoughts on Eagles Cowboys Game

First of all, that could have possibly been the most entertaining professional football game I have ever seen.  The first half was incredible, back and forth, score for score, up and down the field, no holds barred, offensive showdown.  It was truly incredible.

Now I have Terrell Owens in my fantasy league and he single handedly won this weeks match for me, which I had already conceded in my mind, hoping for an Eagles victory and some stellar defense on TO.  But a 72 yard TD catch later and I had a fantasy win and my head in my hands.

Sean Considine – What on Earth are you doing out there?

Big Red – Why on Earth do you have Sean Considine in the game?  Why are you running a zone prevent in the first quarter?  Why are you not blitzing Tony Romo?

Anyway after that Brian Westbrook came back and showed Dallas what a real running back is.  B West shook everyone out there shoes and cruised down the field on a screen here, a draw there, and a little screen to the outside to score.  Oh and what the fuck is up with these NFL referees this year?  How many facemask penalties were missed last night?  I counted at least 3, possibly 4.  Basically the only way the Cowboys can tackle #36 is by illegally grabbing the shit out of his grill piece.

And then the Donovan McNabb fumble.  What the hell was that Donnie?  You faked out your own running back and then tried shoving it into his hands and ended up slamming it into his side as B West is already getting hit by the Dallas D.  Come on man, your smarter then that.  And why dont you throw the ball away when your outside of the pocket and about to get sacked.  Instead you take a 7 or 8 yard loss which eventually led to the following situation.

Andy Reid down 4, needs to score a touchdown, 4th and 12 and he throws the ole hook and ladder short of the first down hopping to catch the Dallas D sleeping.  Not quite Andy.  Piss poor play call at the end.  It makes me pretty nervous knowing that Andy Reid has to rely on trick plays to stay in a close game at the end.  Blows my mind.

All in all, a positive effort from the Eagles minus the a-fore-mentioned.  We proved we are top dawgs in the NFL alongside Dallas and our offense is back with a healthy Donovan and we look pretty damn unstoppable.  I cannot wait to see what happens when we get Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown back.  Oh and DeSean Jackson, your the man, but SCORE THE fucking TOUCHDOWN before you start to celebrate.  Jesus Christ man.

Kevin Curtis Could Miss Some Significant Time

According to sources Kevin Curtis has a sports hernia and will be out for a while and may require surgery.  This is very bad news for an already questionable receiving corps.  Especially with Reggie Brown having hamstring issues early on through camp and the first two preseason games.

If we were waiting to make a move at Anquan Boldin well now is the time to do it.  Should be interesting to see what gets reported in the coming days.  Stay posted for more details and updates on the situation.

UPDATE: Just heard 3-4 weeks, but if you ask Donnie and LJ, they might not agree.

Bring BOLDIN Aboard!

In a Pacman Jones-like turn of events, Arizona Cardinals’ star wide receiver Anquan ‘the Phenomenon’ Boldin is reportedly seeking a trade from the team after contract negotiations have seemed to sour.

Boldin’s agent Drew Rosenhaus (yes, the infamous Drew Rosenhaus) had already asked for a new contract shortly after fellow wide out Larry Fitzgerald signed a four-year, $40 million deal last spring.  By the time training camp opened, however, Boldin still had no contract and blamed the Cardinal brass for not making good on promises of restructuring a contract extension he signed three years ago.

Under his current contract, Boldin is making $4 million a year, while Fitzgerald is making $10 million (BALLER).   Boldin was reportedly seeking a contract equal to or more than that of Fitzgerald’s.

Boldin and Rosenhaus have made it clear that he no longer wants a new contract.  He wants to leave the team.

Last time I checked we have a plethora of cornerbacks and Arizona could use a few good ones.  Here is our golden opportunity to package Lito and a pick for a TOP NOTCH WIDEOUT.  Boldin would be a FORCE to be reckoned with in our offense and with McNabb throwing bullets to him.  Donovan with Boldin and Kevin Curtis lined up wide.  B West behind him and Reggie Brown and LJ Smith in the slots.  I LIKE IT, A LOT!

BRING BOLDIN ABOARD!  THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL STARTS HERE.

Eagles to Offer Randy Moss HUGE Deal

Over the weekend I heard ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reported that if Randy Moss hits free agency, he will be offered a $40 million deal on the first day from the Eagles.

Also over the weekend it seems that there are a lot of teams who have reportedly shown interest in Donovan McNabb. Their is a rumor that the Dolphins reportedly would offer the #1 pick for him which I think has to be wrong, but very interesting and if I were the Eagles I might consider.  We all have heard that the Bears are interested (Donnie returning home to Chi-town), as well as Brad Childress and Minnesota, and Jon Harbaugh and the Ravens.

So I will throw this out there.

The Eagles better not think that signing a healthy L.J. Smith is enough and we definitely need to improve at WR and DE this offseason, whether through the draft, free agency, or some sort of trade.  I do not know exactly where we stand in terms of money and the salary cap, but I know we were under last year and seem to have some spending room (I believe around $20 mil).

Do we cut Jevon and Darren Howard and throw the house at Moss?

Do we trade McNabb to the ‘Phins for the #1 and try and sign Moss with that extra money saved (We could then trade the #1 for a few picks, or do whatever)?

My Move:  Jevon’s career is basically over and its time for both (him and the Eagles) to move their seperate ways.  I would not mind seeing Darren Howard go either (who had a horrible year by the way).  This would amount for a lot of cap room which we can then throw at a top receiver (RANDY MOSS).  Keep Donovan too, can you imagine Randy running at top speed straight downfield and McNabb unleashing his cannon.  It would be beautiful to watch.  In mind opinion neither Reggie Brown or Kevin Curtis are #1 receivers, but would make one of the best #2 and #3 combos in the league.  Wes Welker ring a bell. Kevin Curtis could be that guy, given a #1 threat to take the heat off of himself and Reggie Brown.  The time is now people.  2008 is looking more and more like the best chance we could have for years to come.
