The 10K Club

DeSean Jackson and Quintin Demps were both fined $10,000 from the NFL for their celebration after Action Jackson’s punt return for a touchdown against the Redskins last Sunday.

Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.  All they did was fold their arms and pose for like 5 seconds and then run back to their respective sideline.  Bullshit.  Goodell is a douchebag.

The NFL was apparently fine-happy on Friday and also fined Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown and two linemen $10,000 each for their choreographed dance routine in Sunday’s 17-10 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

The league said Friday that choreographed celebrations by two or more players aren’t permitted, though no flags were thrown at the time in the game (anything but what DeSean and Quintin did).

These guys at least had a choreographed dance called the “Cupid Shuffle” which is a bit more then a pose for the cameras after a fantastic play.  At least let’s be fair here Commish.

The punt return video is below for your viewing pleasure, because we don’t see that them too often in Philadelphia:

B West Just Rest

Eagles’ coach Andy Reid revealed Monday that superstar running back Brian Westbrook fractured two ribs in the opening quarter of the Eagles loss to the Redskins on Sunday as reported earlier by my cohort, the 215 Sportsguy.  His status for Sunday’s game in San Francisco is uncertain at the moment but dont worry, we expect his little bro Byron Westbrook to release his diagnosis on Wednesday.

If it were my call; Do NOT play him.  We all realize that the Birds have already dug themselves into a hole, but unless they feel they are already in panic mode there is no reason to trot him out there.  And like the Bears match up (which is actually making me rethink this whole train of thought, shit put him out there, we’re already tanking) if the Eagles cannot beat the 49ers WITHOUT Brian why was there all of this Super Bowl or bust talk coming out of Lehigh?

Sixers 8th in ESPN’s Power Rankings

Marc Stein of ESPN.com has ranked YOUR Philadelphia 76ers 8th in the NBA in the pre-season Power Rankings.  This is probably the highest the Sixers have ever been on Marc Stein’s over-hyped ranking system, but you know, I’ll take it.

I am a diehard Sixer fan, probably one of the few Philadelphia sports fans where the Sixers are my favorite over the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers (which would be the order of importance to me).  I have never been more pumped for the start of an NBA season then I am for this upcoming season.  The Sixers were hands down the outright winners of the offeason and the team they are about to trot onto the hardwood could be the best in years.  The run and gun style combined with a true post presence really gives me goosebumps when I think of the potential this team possesses.

Mr. Stein ranked us 8th in the NBA, but behind fellow Eastern Conference mates: Boston (1), Cleveland (6) and Detroit (7).  He had this to say about our franchise heading into the 2008/2009 NBA season.

The Sixers were undisputed champs of the offseason, but it’s also true that Mr. Brand might lift last season’s No. 7s only one spot. Philly can finish anywhere from No. 2 to No. 6, like Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando and Toronto.

I think Mr. Elton Brand will indeed lift us higher then then 7th seed in the East.  I’m predicting a 3 seed (behind Boston and Detroit), it’s bold, it’s a tad high, but who ever said lofty expectations were bad.   I think Mr. Brand is the best pickup we possibly could have made.  Not only was he the best FA out there, but he also filled our biggest need at a true Power Forward.

Things are looking bright Sixer Fans and I’m jumping on the bandwagon now, wait, I was always on the Sixer bandwagon… anyway, see you on opening night.

McNabb and Westbrook Expect to Play Sunday

Big Red said this morning that quarterback Donovan McNabb (chest contusion), running back Brian Westbrook (ankle), tight end L.J. Smith (back), fullback Tony Hunt (concussion) and guard Shawn Andrews (back) would all miss practice this afternoon.

McNabb said was still sore but expected to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears. B West is also holding out hope that he’ll be recovered enough from the injury to his right ankle to play.

I’m optimistic about getting out there and being able to play.  I’ve been rehabbing pretty agressively, doing everything I can to be out there on the field Sunday night.

Hank Hits the Jackpot

Rumors have been circulating around Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson about a possible romance linked to a certain NFL wide receiver.

We now know who that player is. It is none other than a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles named Hank Baskett.

According to various reports, the two have been seen having expensive dinners all around Philadelphia, and Kendra has even been spotted at the Eagles games. A fan has been quoted as seeing Kendra, “all over him kissing and sticking her tongue down his throat. It was crazy. She was wearing his jersey and had her hair pulled back. She didn’t look so hot. She was doing shots of Patron like it was going out of style. She was at the Eagles game and went to the Main Street Pub after. Hank lives next to Main Street Pub.”

The ex-Playboy bunny took to her myspace blog on Monday to deny rumors that she is engaged, but she proclaimed that she is indeed in love… with Hank Baskett? You be the judge:

Phillies Sweep Gnats, Head to St Louie

Kyle Kendrick allowed just two runs over 6 2/3 innings and the Phillies rolled to an 8-4 victory that finished off a three-game sweep of the dreadful Washington Nationals.  Led by homers from Jasyon Werth and Jimmy Rollins the Phils also took over first place in the NL East with the win as the Marlins also beat the Mets.

The win makes it 5 in a row for the hot-hitting Phils.  Lets see if they can keep it up as they stroll into Albert Pujols territory for a weekend series.

Tonight: 8:15 PM from Busch Stadium in St. Louis.  LHP Cole Hamels (9-6, 3.27) vs. RHP Kyle Lohse (12-3, 3.68).
